In rainy Seattle, the dark and gloomy days took over the crime scene on the streets. Detective Linden and Holder, played by actors Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos, went through four seasons of pure thriller and mystery to solve the gut-wrenching crimes that scrambled across the city in the show The Killing. These two truly embodied the cigarette smoking, coffee drinking, no sleeping or showering qualities that all the dedicated detectives had in them. These two police partners did everything in their power to solve the cases brought upon them, highlighting the true devotion of their work. Throughout the first season, the killing of a teenage girl, Rosie Larsen, was combined with the crooked politics of the city and the search was on… who killed Rosie? Bringing the emotionally charged life issues, as well as the suspenseful scenes, The Killing, brought together immensely talented actors that truly looked the part. While Detective Sarah Linden had her problems, her drive to solve cases was exhibited in the acting of Mireille Enos. Although the murder was dragged along for the first two seasons, there was not a single time the viewers were bored with the plot. Every episode had a new, mind-blowing surprise that changed the course of what one would believe. I know with crime-solving television shows people are always worried about the predictability of things, yet The Killing has you completely shocked and wanting to watch the next episode… even when your eyes are burning and needing sleep at 3 am. Next thing you know, the sun is coming out but finally you finished season two and figured out who Rosie’s killer was… no spoilers though! While season three is a completely different crime, the complex and thrilling scenes were still present. The acting did not become subpar, in fact, the characters had more intensity to them. Mireille and Joel did not slack on their duties as Linden and Holder, showing the real connection between the two partners. We began to dig deeper into the characters and showed a vulnerable side of the two, that was not seen before. The spark of love between the protagonists, the tearjerkers, and all confusing crimes spread its way through the whole season. This somber mood during the series was captured greatly on film, with beautiful shots of the state of Washington, exposing the grey skies and gritty city life. Though the ending of the show did seem a bit rushed with only six episodes, the ending was not dissatisfying. Battling grief and covering up a crime that season three left off at, Linden and Holder outdid themselves in this. One last crime to touch the hearts of the audience, a shocking killer, and the ending we were all rooting for… Linden and Holder together. Where the world takes them is up to us, but just keep it full of twists and turns just like those two detectives did. And with that… loyalty, family, and determination flooded the Netflix screen for many throughout this impeccable series.
